Online library catalogue
View the online library catalogue
The Online library catalogue contains:
- all books, ephemeral publications and offprints held by the Library
- all periodical titles held by the Library
- circa 20,000 periodical articles catalogued between August 1988 and 2000
Subject headings in the online library catalogue
Note that two different types of subject headings appear in the Online library catalogue:
- Library of Congress Subject Headings, which are used in all records obtained from the RLIN database in the course of the Library's retrospective conversion project (circa 40,000 records), and in many records catalogued in-house since 2003;
- Subject headings from a thesaurus developed by the Society's Library in-house since 1988.
The policy for current accessions is to adopt Library of Congress Subject Headings whenever these are suitable for the Library's collection and to continue using the in-house subject headings otherwise. Most records will contain headings from both systems.
Links to the Archaeology Data Service
Some people have experienced problems using the Society's website links to the Library Catalogue on the ADS (Archaeology Data Service) server. We believe this could be due to firewall settings that are preventing your computer from gaining access to sites that carry advertisements (in other words, your browser is reading the acronym ADS as the address of a website containing ads/adverts). The Archaeology Data Service is aware of this problem and has provided a page listing various tips on how to work round the problem .
