Pianosa is a small island in the Tuscan Archipelago of Italy and is part of the Elba Island municipality.
The island’s name Pianosa gives a hint to the island’s geography - Pianura in Italian means plain, referring to the island’s flat plains with its highest point standing 72 foot above sea level.
Being entirely part of the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, Pianosa is not just a beautiful island but also a unique one. Unlike most islands in the area, Pianosa doesn’t offer any shops or common tourist attractions. It’s more of a peaceful place where for you to explore the untainted nature, which is exactly what keeps people coming back over and over again.
There are two boats to Pianosa, one from Piombino, the other from Elba. A maximum of 400 visitors are allowed on the island each day.
