Pianosa Island

Ferries to Pianosa Island

The small island of Pianosa can be found off the south west coast of Elba, in between the West Coast of Italy and Corsica.
The island of Pianosa is very flat (its name comes from the Italian for ‘plain’) reaching less than 30 metres at its highest point. Pianosa was the site of a maximum security prison until its closure in 1998.
Like many of the Tuscan Islands, Pianosa is a wildlife sanctuary and visitors are restricted. Pleasure boats and fishing vessels are not allowed to navigate within one mile of the coast without special permission.
